What does car wax do?

Car wax, or carnuba wax, is the traditional stuff. Oftentimes it comes in a can, sometimes in a liquid form, and offers slight protection against the elements. Additionally, carnauba wax contains filler properties which allow the wax to permeate into the scratches and swirl marks on your paint causing them to temporarily disappear. This gives the car a smooth, and scratch free appearance.

The oil within the carnuba wax can give the paint a warm glow, while offering a smooth, slick feel. This feeling makes dirt, debris, and other particulates much more difficult to stick to your car and cause damage. While waxing is a great way to protect your vehicle, it is the most time consuming and difficult way to add protection.

Today, many companies offer a spray on wax or sealant which are much easier to apply, offer longer term protection, and provide an ultra glossy and slick appearance. Nowadays, much of vehicle protection in the form of traditional wax, spray wax, or liquid application come down mostly to preference.

At NC DETAIL we primarily use spray waxes and sealants to protect our customers' cars. These are fast and efficient to use out in the field and offer longer term durability to our clients.
