Which ceramic coating durability is right for me?
As you do your research on ceramic coatings, you might find that there are many different types of coatings and claims on durability. You will find everything from a proposed 1-year all the way to a lifetime coating. Here at NC DETAIL, we like simplicity. So we offer a 3-year or 5-year coating. Why, you ask? Again, back to simplicity—we like to make things easy for our customers. Most of us get overwhelmed, confused, and downright frustrated when there are too many options. In addition, we have found that 3-year and 5-year coatings both fit what a majority of our customers want and live up to the durability claims. The fact is that while you may encounter other auto detailing outfits proclaiming a “lifetime” coating, the truth is that a coating will last only as long as you care for it… just like anything else! We have seen 3-year ceramic coatings last for as long as 7 years with proper care. We have also seen 7-year (lifetime) coatings fail after as little as 2 years due to improper care.
So, is a 3-year coating or 5-year coating right for you? Well, to be frank, our most commonly sold coating is the 3-year. Our customers find that this is the right balance between affordability and protection. However, if you really want that long-term, extra durability, you might consider a 5-year coating. Again, keep in mind that durability is in large part going to be determined by your ongoing care for the ceramic coating. Other things to consider are: what condition is your car currently in? How do you plan to keep the car? And how much does the car mean to you? These are all good questions to reflect on to determine what coating is right for you.
